Our clients—whom we’re calling Transitional Transition—came to us looking to design their new home! Over the past several years, 3 of their 4 children have graduated and moved out so it was time to move into a new home that better suited their current stage of life. Their desire was to move towards a more Transitional design style while incorporating some furniture they loved from their previous home. We designed the Sitting Room and Media Room (which we came to call “The Man Cave”) with entirely new furnishings, while incorporating some of their special accessories they had collected over the years. We tied the other living spaces together with reupholstered dining chairs, custom pillows for their existing sofa and fresh accessories; so that as you walked from room to room, there was a good sense of flow and the design appeared seamless.

Sitting Room

This room screams Transitional design. As you walk through the front door, you are greeted by this lovely Sitting Room. Four robins egg blue chairs with custom details and throw pillows are circled around an ottoman to create the perfect place to have a nice conversation with guests. On the north wall we added a sleek fireplace that gives the room extra warmth—perfect for cooler nights. This allows for the large sliding doors on the west wall to be open so that watching the sunset over the distant ocean is an option year around. A custom ottoman with bronze nailhead detailing is perfect for a cozy foot rest or can be used as central place to put a tray of hors-d’oeuvres or wine for guests. Opposite the fireplace are bookshelves filled with books and treasures from their years of marriage and raising a family.

Media Room

Now the Media Room (Man Cave!) is an entirely different story! What man doesn’t want a room of his own to come home to? A place where he can put his feet up, relax and watch sports! Equipped with a TV that’s nearly as wide as the wall it’s on, we placed a custom sound board behind the couch to help minimize echo and make the room a bit more sound proof. Two custom ottomans were nestled in front of the custom 10-foot sofa for optimal relaxation!

Additional Accessorizing

These rooms were accessorized to continue the Transitional design through out the home. Navy and white accents fill the living room’s dark wood built-in which tie in the navy dining room chairs and center pieces. Hand picked art was hung though out the home connecting the navy, robins egg blue and vanilla accents.
