Thanksgiving, Christmas, the New Year–the 2017 holidays are barreling toward us! Of course, that means getting our homes ready for delicious turkey dinners and cheery yule tidings. Maybe it’s little too early for a Christmas tree (or is it?), but we can still bring a little holiday cheer in this November by starting with a bit of garland. Mix it with a little copper or gold, and it works perfectly for Thanksgiving. Thread in some lights and a bit of snowy white and suddenly Christmas is here! Read on to see three ways you can use garland this season.

The Mantle

Every mantle is begging for a bit of garland. I like to use to real stuff from my local nursery because it’s premade, easy to maintain, and smells like pine! In November, mixing in a few candles and white mini-pumpkins gives the garland a fall look, while white lights and silver bulbs make it Christmas ready.

The Table

If you have a chandelier above your dining table, try using a few sprigs to spice it up. Drape it along the center of your table for a more traditional look or use shorter sprigs to create a centerpiece like the one below.

The Outside

You can also bring garland into its natural habitat…the outdoors! Start with the front door–an excellent place to hang fresh garland. It gives the porch a holiday vibe and it’s less work than hanging tons of lights. If you have a backyard entertainment space, like say a fireplace, style it for Christmas by adding a little greenery–after all, Santa didn’t specify which chimney he would shimmy down…best be prepared.

I love that the holidays mean bringing in a little bit of the outdoors with real garland. It’s natural, smells like Christmas, and truly ushers in that warm, fuzzy seasonal feeling. Let us know your favorite way to use garland in the comments below!

  1. I love to add garland to my staircase. It just “feels” and smells like Christmas when I have fresh pine along the staircase and of course the mantle. Can’t wait to get to the nursery!
