Plants go with everything. It’s one of the reasons that my team and I love to put them in just about every house we design. They bring life to a room and an organic ambiance. Plants are also a bit of a touchy subject, since, you know, not everyone can keep them alive. If you’re glaring at your not-so-green-thumb right now, well, don’t worry, we’ve created a guide that gives plenty of planty-options! Read on to learn about our favorite decorative plants and how to use them in your home.

The Pothos

From Industrial Farmhouse

If you’re looking for a low-maintenance option, the pothos plant is your new best friend. They’re great for adding some greenery to your coffee table, nightstand, or even for hanging. Put it in a decorative wooden planter or a short ceramic vase, and let the heart-shaped leaves spill over. Just line your plant holder with plastic and water the pothos about once a week. It’s practically fool proof (fingers-crossed).

The Fiddle Leaf Fig

ElegantBlue_R-9

From Timeless Indigo

Everyone loves a good fiddle leaf fig. Great for filling empty corners, the fiddle leaf fig brings in some volume and height. Because it’s a bigger plant option, it can truly make a room feel complete. Plus, when people ask you, “What is that gorgeous little tree called?” you can say, “Oh! You mean my fiddle leaf fig?” immediately making you sound plant-savvy. (To experience an immediate smile, try saying fiddle leaf fig fives times fast.)

The Palm

From Nautical Retreat

Looking for more of a coastal flair? Try a palm! Placed in a plastic-lined wicker basket, a palm can give a room the sense of relaxation with its organic movement…Oo…fancy. We love to use under lighting below which creates a nightly ambiance of shadow and light.

Preserved Boxwood Rounds

CoastalEclectic_Edits-28

From Coastal Eclectic

Don’t want any maintenance? No problem! Preserved boxwood rounds are real boxwood leaves which require you to do, well, nothing. You can set them on top of ceramic jars to add height (see above) or you can just place them around the room for a pop of green. We’re not huge fans of faux-plants, so this is a great option for anyone who wants real and easy!

The Succulent and the Orchid

W_R-2

From Timeless and Trendy, All at Once

Speaking of faux plants…we’re including a few, but only because they look so real! (No silk plants people. We repeat, no silk plants.) If we’re going to go the faux route, we stick to succulents and orchids. You can find high-quality imitation succulents at most home decor stores. However, the orchids we use are custom made for our business in order to achieve the highest grade of orchid-ness…really though, they are extremely beautiful and require no maintenance. Yippy!

If you’re looking around at your room and it doesn’t quite seem complete, maybe it’s just missing a bit of foliage. Any of these plants can be a great solution for making a space whole and alive! So, happy plant hunting and may all your greenery dreams come true!
