Happy June! Even though we still have 21 days until summer officially begins, it feels like it’s already here. Eating dinner on the veranda, having a pool party, entertaining friends–this is the season to make the backyard a useful space. So, we’ve put together some of our backyard designs (and tips) for inspiration!

S’more Summer Nights

This backyard belongs to our awesome boss lady, Kathy. Designed to bring people together, this pleasant patio features a stone fireplace, comfy furniture, complete with a barbecue. It’s the perfect place for a summer dinner topped off with a gooey s’more. We know not everyone can put in a full fireplace, but there are other options if nightly marshmallow roasts are your goal. Consider a fire pit (either built into the ground or a mobile version) surrounded by your favorite patio furniture. Just make sure you invest in patio pieces that will last. Look for durable fabrics and weatherproof wicker. It will save you money in the long run!k_outdoor-74k_outdoor-59k_outdoor-73k_outdoor-77

A simple way to create a summery ambiance is by hanging market lights. Bright enough to add some glow but dim enough to still see the stars, market lights make you feel like just maybe you’ve been transported to a cafe patio in France…

A Seaside Getaway

This next backyard features the best accessory…the sea! While the patio furniture and pool lounge chairs showcase black and white details, they also enhance the natural greens and blues all around. An easy way to add in some natural color is by using large potted planters with flowers or fruit trees. Need a lime for that refreshing glass of sparkling water? No problem!

Even if you don’t have the ocean in your backyard, adding a water feature can help create a spa-like environment. Surround a fountain with cheery flowers and you’ve got yourself a pretty little garden!

DSC_7735If you have a larger outdoor space, we love the idea of multiple sitting areas. Designed almost like the inside of a house, there are a separate living and dining area (complete with chandelier), which you can make even more private by adding flowing white curtains.

The Outdoor Dining Room

This indoor/outdoor space is the perfect place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. With a table that seats ten and sitting room at the bar, it has enough room for the whole family plus some. We also love that those in the “kitchen” (BBQ) are able to enjoy the company of those they are serving.

Once again, adding color can be done through the details. These blue pots add some texture and pattern and give the space a pop of natural hue. We also suggest adding in pieces that are both pretty and functional. This wooden ladder fills in an empty corner and acts as a super cute towel rack.

All of these beautiful backyards have one thing in common–they bring people together. Whether it’s an intimate meal or a pool party, your backyard can truly add something special to your home! Remember, big or small, you can utilize the space you have to create more summer memories. Thanks for reading!
