One thing we talk about with our clients is the idea of keeping your staple pieces timeless. Just as everyone needs certain staples in their wardrobe (a good pair of jeans, a little black dress, the perfect tee…) the same is true about your home. It can be so tempting to go trendy, but if staple pieces are timeless, your home will never go out of style! This is exactly what we did with the client below. Her sofa and adorable chairs will always be timeless. We just added the additional pieces to show more personality!
Don’t get me wrong, we are all about trendy. But we’d suggest using accessories to show your stylish flair. Rather than upholstering your entire couch in the new “it” fabric, go with a classic neutral and save the trendy fabrics for pillows and ottomans. Rather than going bold with kitchen tiles, go with a classic subway tile and choose unique hardware for your cabinetry instead. Rather than choosing the flooring that is all the rage, go with a dark wood and throw a trendy cowhide rug on top of it. Perhaps even layer two rugs to really show some flare! Your future self AND your wallet will thank us when you use accessories to chase trends. This way they can be swapped out when you are ready to move on to the next big fad (and you won’t break the bank in the process).
