Some clients are a good fit. Sometimes we just click. But every once in a while, we meet a client and it’s love at first sight! These clients inspire us through their excitement and just by being themselves. These clients make you want to be a better designer than you’ve ever been before. Our client, Eclectic Traveler, was one of those clients.
She loved her home—had raised her family there and lived out the last few years of her late husband’s life in that house. But now that she has it all to herself, her priorities have shifted. Her children are having children of their own and she was looking for a glamorous space where she could relax and entertain. She came to us looking for a complete makeover. Room by room, she wanted us to create a new, exciting place to call home—one where she could showcase photos and tokens from her years of traveling the world. So, we wanted to create a space that was as brilliant as the eclectic art she had collected with her husband. She wasn’t afraid to gut the home…so, we took her whole downstairs to the bones—kitchen, dining room, living room, family room… even the entry way. With a fresh white blank slate, we began to design.
Living Room
We started in the living room. Our vision for the space was inspired by her carpet—a bold leopard print that was the only original thing we left in the house. We envisioned a formal, yet inviting space filled with gold and silver accents. She was drawn to mixing styles and layering prints. Who says you can’t take a baroque chair, upholster it in a zebra print fabric, and put it on a leopard carpet? Not us! So that’s exactly what we did. We chose a creamy and comfortable sofa and styled it with black linen pillows studded with gold rivets to give the space a little added interest.

Family Room
Next was the family room. We wanted a casual comfort in this room. We did slipcovered upholstered pieces—chairs in charcoal gray slip flannel that swiveled so our client could enjoy her ocean view out of her new vanishing glass doors. Leopard and damask throw pillows, adding interest to the sofa…upholstered in an incredible Ralph Lauren striped stonewashed linen. For accessories, we envisioned horn with black and gold. We stretched the contractor when we asked for the fireplace to be painted black, but we knew it would be phenomenal!
