Living and designing in San Diego is a true gift. Our clients’ homes are located in a place that is nearly always 75 degrees and sunny, we love when they extend their homes beyond the four walls and into the sunshine! It’s a perfect way for those who love to entertain to make their home feel larger and really take advantage of the entire property. As you know, we are in love with our client, Eclectic Traveler, and the final product of her re-design (click here to see her interior post and here to she the concepts for her home). So, when she was ready for the next phase of her re-design and wanted to focus on outdoor living areas, we jumped at the opportunity! Eclectic Traveler is so much more than just an adventurer. She is a mother, a grandmother and an incredible host! Every time we have the pleasure of meeting with her in her home, she is always ready with the most refreshing iced tea and a hug. We wanted to design spaces that would create conversation. Spaces where people could gather in small or large groups and experience togetherness. It was important for each of the outdoor living spaces to make sense, while still tying in with the interior design. We focused on black and white and mixing patters and are so pleased with the outcome! We broke her back yard into three spaces; a lounging space, an outdoor dining room, and a place to sunbathe by the pool. Beyond the french doors of Eclectic Traveler’s kitchen is a cozy sitting area with an outdoor upholstered sofa and chairs. From here she can watch her grandchildren play or enjoy her growing garden. By the pool we placed two large, chaise loungers where she and her daughters can enjoy each others company while the kids swim. Between the pool and lounging area we placed an outdoor dining table for her to host dinner parties during the cool San Diego evenings. Each space flows effortlessly to the next and can be enjoyed all at once, or individually. From her Sunset Cliffs home, Eclectic Traveler has an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean and all its glory! We chose to furnish this space with a loveseat and two chairs around a fire pit. This space is perfect for watching the sunset or roasting marshmallows…either way, it is sure to be enjoyed.
