Can you feel it in the air? The mornings are a little cooler and the evenings are a bit more chilly. Okay…so in San Diego, the middle of the day is still upwards of 77 degrees, but fall is still approaching! The leaves are beginning to shift color, which means it’s time to start cozying up homes for fall.

After all, with the holidays barreling towards us and the dream of hot soup and pumpkin bread on our minds, I think we’re all beginning to feel our homes need a bit of autumn sprucing, which, of course, means creating a cozier style! How so, you ask? Well, read on for some comfy tips and inspiration.

The Throw

Throws are both a stylish and practical way to make a home feel cozy. They create an effortless look–I mean, you really can toss a throw on a chair and it immediately looks inviting. We love draping one at the end of a bed to add a pop of color or the corner of a couch for a more completed living room look. Plus, as nights get even more chilly, you can pull that throw to keep toasty warm–how neat is that?

Candle Light

Everyone probably has their favorite pumpkin spice candle out, but candles can be so much more than fragrance! They can also be artfully placed on coffee tables or in wood basins (see above) to create dreamy autumn lighting. We also love a few candle lit lanterns both inside a home and on the front porch. Not only do they add charm, but they also make a cozy atmosphere. There’s nothing quite like a room with a few thoughtfully placed candles to brighten up the space while also giving a lovely scent. (Tip: Pour a two-inch layer of Epsom salt into a large glass jar or container before placing your candle inside. Not only will it hold the candle in place, but it looks beautiful!)

(Sorry…we feel like we have to say it…Put your candles somewhere safe.)

Comfy Pillows

Grabbing a few fun but cozy pillows can add some needed fluff to couches and armchairs. Choose pillows that have a warm quality, like a chunky knitted material or gold studs and threading. Maybe these are pillows you keep out year round, or maybe they go back in the fall/winter box once spring comes. Either way, they’ll make your sitting area that much more inviting once fall is in full swing. Once they’re placed, give the middle a good chop for a completed look.

As cozy, comfy, and magical autumn evenings approach us, these are just a few easy ways to get your home ready for fall. Thanks for reading and happy decorating!
