In honor of its completion, I wanted to share with you a project that is more personal than most.

I’ll begin with a little back-story…

For those who don’t know, my husband Greg and I married young…we were 20 (we recently celebrated 33 years of marriage, yay us!). Shortly after we wed, we purchased land in Blossom Valley and began building our dream home. We raised our family here and our three boys still refer to this as their “family home.” Now that they’re all out of the house, Greg and I keep making adjustments to fit our current pace of life.

From the beginning, we wanted our home to be special. Not just because the rooms were filled with lovely things or because the furniture was cozy, we wanted it to feel like more. To create a place where friends and family wanted to be, where joy was felt and connection was experienced. That is still our hearts’ desire and was the strongest driving force behind this project.

This outdoor space is something we have dreamed about for years. It was important to both Greg and I that the space fit how we do life and help to make our home even more of a special place to gather with those we love.

I think I feel so strongly about this new space, because it embodies my philosophy on design. Although I love to surround myself with beauty, what is truly important to me are  family and relationships—and my design style reflects that. To me, a well designed area is one that calls people to create space—space for love, laughter, connection, celebration and conversation. I believe the beauty of a well designed space should come second to its ability to bring people together. The furniture should be so cozy that hours of good conversation feel like minutes. Your surroundings should be so lovely that you find yourself slowing down because you want to spend your time there.

So, is this space lovely? I sure think so! But what I think when I sit on the adorable slipcovered sofas is about all that will happen here. The marshmallows that my grandkids will roast while we enjoy time with our sons and their amazing wives; the barbeques with our church buddies; the laughter with friends who only seem to be getting better with age; cups of coffee cozied up to my husband for the next 33 years; and all the joy and love that I hope this space creates for the people we love the most.

Thank you for allowing me to share a little of my home with you!
