When our client, A Fresh Take on Red, showed us their inspiration photos it was love at first sight! We knew instantly that marrying a Transitional style with whimsical patterns and colors would be perfect for them. Red was chosen to pair with gray. These two colors truly bring out the best in one another, gray softening the bright and often harshness of red, red warming up the cold, stark feeling gray can have.

We began with a modest powder room. We covered the walls with the bold, floral wall paper (pictured below to the right). That wallpaper spiraled into the inspiration for our main fabric (pictured to the left), which became the inspiration for the living room, kitchen, dining room, bonus room and library.

It’s not often we get to design a transitional space using such fun and bold colors, but the final results definitely DO NOT have us seeing red.

Living Room

This room was instantly transformed by the transitional inspired built-ins filling the main wall with geometric lines. Their mesh wire door fronts and white lacquer finish keep with the more modern feel. We love the floral fabric on the throw pillows which tie in all the accessories and furniture pieces chosen for this room! We love the cozy feeling the down filled sectional gives this space.

Dining Area & Kitchen

The kitchen was tiled in timeless subway tile and red accents were placed throughout. Fresh fruit and Hot Tamales candy add a little playful color. Bar stools with decorative curved backs play off the whimsical theme that flows from room to room.

The dining room was used as a divider between spaces in this open floor plan. The light fixture chosen features candles as a way to offer some soft lighting and create a focal point above the table. Bright green preserved boxwood balls were placed down the center of their vintage table. Placing a mirror at the head of the table opened up the wall. Red was pulled in on the chair cushions in a unique diamond pattern.

Bonus Room

Our client had a specific, yet broad vision for this room. They wanted a space where they could practice yoga as a family, a place where she could work and he played the piano while still allowing space for their daughter to be with them, a place where they could entertain. We just love how the window bench came out, fitted with a custom cushion and pillows. The art work adds a floral pop of red without over powering the simple nature of the room. The taupe rug in the center of the room may look simple, but do not let it deceive you! It is the softest, silkiest area rug you’ll ever feel. We may or may not have laid down on it with our client and made snow angels but there’s no photographic proof.

Study

This room just screams snuggle up with a good book (especially since your options for reading material are endless AND just an arms length away). We loved the fabric in the dinning room so much that we pulled it into this room as well, covering a simple custom ottoman. We paired a new gray chair with the client’s dark leather chair. We filled the shelves with books which they’ve been collecting for as long as they’ve been together and nestled treasures (both new and old) in the blank spaces.
