Having the interior of your home match the personality and history of the home is something that I talk about often with my clients. I am all about putting an updated spin on things while making sure it stays true to the style of the home.  Filling a farmhouse with contemporary pieces stretches it too far.

When we first pulled up outside this client’s home several years ago, our hearts skipped a beat. We were greeted with a classic, craftsman style home tucked away in the lovely area of Mission Hills. It wasn’t until we were inside that we fully understood why she had reached out to us. The personality of her home had been lost. The heavy tuscan influence muddled the beauty of her original moldings and wainscoting and she missed it. She wanted to bring her home back to its roots…to bring out all the reasons that she fell in love with it in the first place.

What unfolded next was a designer’s dream come true! Room after room, we brought her home back to it’s roots. Each time a project wrapped, she would instantly start talking about the next. We started with the gathering areas, then moved into the bedrooms, then the office, a home gym and outdoor patio.  Little by little, we brought her craftsman home back to life (see here)!

The final design was the kitchen, and let me tell you, we have been DYING to get our hands on it! We designed and created the brightest, loveliest space. Clean, white cabinets surrounded by warm caramel walls. We replaced the appliances with new, updated stainless steel pieces. The heavy granite countertops were replaced by an updated creamy quartz.  The simple backsplash was done with a mini subway pattern true to the period of the home.

It’s so important that spaces not only look amazing but also get the job done. Our client wanted her laundry room to be inconspicuously placed in her kitchen and requested a full size washer and dryer.  We used pantry style doors to hide the appliances and created a small space to fold and organize laundry just to it’s left.
