With big ideas, come big rewards.

As most of you know, Kathy Ann Abell Interiors kicked off the new year with a big install in Princeville, Kauai. We talked about it a little on our Facebook and Instagram and fear not!…a full blog post is coming soon with all the details and our favorite images. But in the meantime, we wanted to share one of our favorite elements from the project.

It’s not uncommon for Kathy to turn to the team and proclaim, “I have a crazy idea” and we all know that means we’re in for some fun and creativity! For this project (which we’ve named Honoiki or #clientHonoiki for those of you that are social media fans) that “crazy idea” came in the form of a surfboard chandelier.

She envisioned several filament light bulbs, individually wrapped around a classic wooden surfboard. She wanted to suspend the board from the ceiling beams using dock cleats and nautical rope. On top of that, we hand wrapped each light cord with sisal twine to give it a truly custom feel.
